The city streets pulsate with the ebbs and flows of human propulsion. There is a beauty to being lost in an urban landscape wandering through the everyday lives, if only for a moment, of an inexhaustible sea of strangers. The work of Eli Harris captures this non-stop parade of humanity through fleeting moments of social interaction. The fractured nature of memory syntax is relayed to the pages of books that have been given a new relevance as defined by the artist. These pages are unique to each experience, categorizing a series of moments that make up a string of banal or evocative events. They are men, women, children, tourists, bums, etc., we unconsciously profile and save to memory. This is the everyday life of Eli Harris in transit. This is the life of a living city.
The show runs from August 6 through August 28th, 2009 at Cafe Royale, 800 Post St. (@ Leavenworth), San Francisco.
